There was a plenty of physics at the recent community event in Omagh, Co. Tyrone – Eamon’s Get Together.

The event was organised to mark the work of local educationalist, the late Eamon McClean. Eamon, was the general manager of the Speedwell Trust, a charity which brings together children from across the religious divide in Northern Ireland through educational projects using the environment at Parkanuar Forest near Dungannon. He was also involved in multiple sporting and community groups and the day reflected his many interests with long and short distance cycles, 5K runs and walks, plus a host of family activities including science shows, art and crafts, drumming workshops, live music and much more. The event was held at the recently opened Arvalee School and Resource Centre on the new Strule Shared Education Campus in Omagh.

The Institute of Physics in Ireland supported the event bringing Sue McGrath’s highly entertaining and engaging science of bubbles show to it while also distributing hundreds of the IOP diffraction glasses.

Well over 1000 people participated in the event which was also a fund raiser for Speedwell, initially to purchase a defibrillator and also to help sustain the work of the project.
