IOP Scores with Young Social Innovators

The Institute of Physics brought its radar football kit to the 2014 Young Social Innovators Showcase  recently in Dublin. Over 6000 students attended the event   which featured their work  in areas as diverse as mental health, gender equality in sport, animal welfare and rural isolation. Alongside the projects and their awards, the day featured exhibitions on creating a better world a ‘silent disco’ an Open Mic for student singers and a host of presentations from the students from all over Ireland. IOP kept hundreds of students engaged throughout the day, testing their football skills by measuring the speed of a ball using radar. Top speed of the day was 93kn/h from Jordan Dunne of St Mark’s Community School, Tallaght. Beyond football, students also had the opportunity to explore uses of radar and find out more about physics all around.
