14 April 2014

Sciene Teacher Association

The event was well attended by teachers from all over Ireland including a good representation of physicists. The event opened with a keynote address by EU Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan Quinn.

IOP teacher network co-ordinators, Paul Nugent and David Keenahan ran a range of physics demos at the stand on many areas including Bernoulli’s principle while a particular highlight of the event was speaker, physicist Jim Al-Khalili on his latest book, Nine Greatest Enigmas in Science. Prof Aine Hyland also discussed issues on the design of Leaving Certificate science syllabi in Ireland making international comparisons. Meanwhile the IOP stand was cleared out of its extensive range of schools materials. We look forward to next year’s event!
