Queens University Belfast 36th Annual Conference for Physics Teachers

The 36th Annual conference of Physics teachers will take place in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Queen’s University Belfast on Wednesday 24 June 2008 from 9:30am to 3:30pm.

The conference is open to all secondary level teachers and those from further education colleges. This year will feature an overview of activities and available assistance from the IoP by Sue McGrath, and a series of physics experiments suitable for the classroom will be demonstrated by the Irish Science on Stage team. Looking at modern physics, Prof. Alan Fitzsimmons will talk about the physics of asteroid impacts. Finally, Nicola Byrne will chair a panel session looking at curriculum matters.

Horizons in Physics is an interactive series of lectures and demonstrations being held or 4th year secondary school pupils at Queen's University Belfast on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd June. This years Theme is "Telly-Physics", where pupils will learn about the physics behind television, how science programmes are made, and even how to tell science-fact from science-fiction.
