Electric Skies:

The intriguing power and beauty of Lightning

Channel 4 EQUINOX series 50 minutes, 12+

Scientists are struggling to understand how such vast electrical forces are summoned in a thundercloud and even how a lightening bolt forms. A lightening bolt can be up to 30 miles long yet less than half an inch thick. For the fraction of a second that the lightening bolt exists it is hotter than the surface of the sun: so hot that the air around it explodes. This stunning film looks at the latest research and meets those whose lives have been touched by lightening both intentionally and unintentionally.
