The IOP supported the webcast of two Belfast born cutting edge scientists who were speaking at an event for schools on the Large Hadron Collider.

Dr Steve Myers, Director of Accelerators and Technology at CERN and Prof. James Stirling, Cambridge University discussed the construction and scientific goals of the LHC to a group of over 140 students and teachers. The live broadcast also featured a question and answer session with queries coming in from observers world wide. Minister for Education, Caitiona Ruane, also spoke at the event commenting on the excitement that big physics can generate in young people. She also announced details of recent funding to the IOP in Ireland to support the appointment of two additional teacher network co-ordinators in N. Ireland who will work with physics teachers to help in the teaching of the subject.
