Dark matter and nanotech explained

The Institute of Physics will be live webcasting two lectures this Thursday, 19 March, from http://www.iop.org/, being given at the Institute to an audience comprised of physics teachers from London and the South East. The main aim of the lectures is to help teachers tackle topical and exciting physics in the classroom.
At 11.00, Dr Damian Pope of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, will be discussing The Mystery of Dark Matter, particularly the principles of circular motion, providing tips to secondary school teachers.
At 15.15, Professor Richard B Jackman from the London Centre for Nanotechnology, University College London, will look at the exciting prospects for nanotechnology in fields as diverse as healthcare, aerospace and jewellery, while also touching on some of the alarmist nanotech stories that have appeared in some news media.
The webcasts will remain on the website after the live broadcast.
Charles Tracy, Head of Education Pre-19 at the Institute of Physics, said, “We’re delighted to be able to reach physics teachers through the web and we hope that the two lectures being made are going to help teachers inspire physics students.”
